I’ve been looking at some of the Homeschool Blog Awards Nominees (congrats, Nikki!) and I’m thinking this blog hasn’t got much going on! So many good homeschooling blogs out there and this one is, well, bo-ring! So I though I might write something ….
I think another change may be coming to our plans for language arts next year. Yes, I cannot make up my mind! I lean more towards the Charlotte Mason camp than any other educational philosophy, so I came across Queen Homeschool Supplies last year. I liked their catalog and their books, and I just received a new 2007 catalog today. A friend had our state convention invite them this year, but it may have been too late – I hope to see them there, though!
I’m throwing the whole “I need a reading curriculum” idea out the window. I’m going to do language arts a la Charlotte Mason. And what better way than with books that already have everything spelled out for you? At Queen Homeschool Supplies they have language arts resources that look fabulous. Take the following into consideration:
Language Lessons -
They have an entire Language Lessons series that begins with 2 volumes of “…for Little Ones” (ages 3-5), then the next 2 volumes are “… for the Very Young” (ages 5-9), then comes “… for the Elementary Child” and finally “…for the Secondary Child“.
They have now put sample pages on their website and the lessons look good. The picture narrations are full-color artworks and the lessons themselves seem to be much more enjoyable and overall educational than what we have been using this year (First Language Lessons).
Spelling -
I have never been able to fully grasp just how I should do spelling a la Charlotte Mason, and Sandi Queen must feel my pain! She has written 3 books called “Spelling Through Copywork” that also look quite promising. With 180 lessons each, I think these books will work out well for us.
Copywork -
I like copywork and I really do think that it works. Sandi Queen has written a series of copywork books using a variety of resources. It would be nice to not have to come up with copywork on my own.
Okay, so that’s all I am looking at right now. I think we’ll chuck First Language Lessons for the rest of this year … anyone want to buy it?
ETA: I have recently found out from others’ comments that the quality of these are not very high
